HDF 492: Leadership Minor Portfolio

SELF LEADERSHIP

Highlights from my self-leadership would probably be my learning of how to use my stregnths to my advantage, and also how I learned a lot about self-discipline and keeping myself on task. Using my calendar and scheduling was a huge challenge for me, but through my stregnths of context, competition, and positivity, I was able to see that self-discipline was not only crucial to my success as a student, but also as a leader and member of the workforce.

LEADERSHIP THEORIES

I think what I can take away most from my leadership theories section of my portfolio is how much I learned about organizational leadership. This concept was so foreign to me, and it wasn't until I took my BUS 441 class that I learned not only how to be an effective leader in the workplace, but also an effective follower.

INCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP/DIVERSITY

A highlight of my inclusive leadership/diversity section of my portfolio is how much I learned about privilage and how to use it to become a change agent. Before 2014, I had never even been made aware what privilage was, let alone that I had it. I think that through these classes I have learned how to use that privilage for good, and to become a change agent for those whose voices cannot be heard.

CRITICAL THINKING

Critical thinking played an important role in my job as a sorority sister, as well as an SOLC member. There are countless memories I have where it was noted that critical thinking would play a huge part in the decision making process. From something so small as invitations, to something so large as putting on a retreat involving my own sorority, critical thinking played a huge part in my college career.

INTERPERSONAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL CONCEPTS/SKILLS

These skills that I have acquired in this section are so important to the work that I do now that I am in my career. It is crucial to have well developed interpersonal skills when working in PR and internal communications, because that is our job as communicators.
