SOLC & CONSULTING

SOLC

The Student Organization Leadership Consultants (SOLC), an affiliate of URI’s Student Senate, is a group of URI students who have received advanced training in leadership & group development by the staff of the Center for Student Leadership Development (CSLD). SOLC works to promote and use peer leadership to help URI’s student groups to effectively achieve their goals. Here’s a bit more on what we do:

  • Plans and facilitates individually designed workshops and retreats.

  • Mentors, counsels, and consults with student groups, organizations, and teams.

  • Teaches relevant concepts and skills in order to improve organization effectiveness

WHAT IS CONSULTING?

"Student Organization Leadership Consultants is a group of leadership students dedicated to building the leadership community at the University of Rhode Island by forming and strengthening the bond between the members of Student Organizations. We believe that if the members of an organization can work together efficiently and effectively, they will have a greater impact on the overall atmosphere of the school." - Caitlin Runyon

WHAT CONSULTING IS TO ME

As a consultant I have learned more about myself than I ever have. I have learned how to view my stregnths through a facilitation lense and how to take my everyday experiences with how I percieve the inner workings of groups and apply it to my retreats. The leadership theory that I use while consulting and also in my everyday activity is Relational Leadership. Relational Leadership allows me to use my prior knowledge of how people work (all the little neuances I've picked up about people over the years) and use them to relate to other people. This helps knock down walls people may have while participating in the retreat, which sometimes can be quite stressful. Overall I have recieved an unforgettable experience from HDF 413 and SOLC. I have gained knowledge that is irreplaceable, and made friends to last a lifetime.
